This beautiful Baume et Mercier man's watch has lots of it: The three piece solid 18K gold case - just slightly on the "green" side in color - does not skimp, as the central part and lugs are strong and sturdy with no base-metal spacer. The case tube and outer ring that goes into the crown are also solid gold. The bezel too is solid gold of course, as is the relatively heavy case back which is much thicker than many watches of this type and size. The back is uninitialled, and free of any visible dents. We assume that the dial markers and hands are solid gold too (the hands adjusted very easily), and the champagne dial is in excellent condition.
The gold theme continues with the famous micro-rotor movement: Other versions of this very advanced movement have 17 jewels and nickel-plated plates; Baume lavishly finishes this movement by fully jewelling everything that might possibly wear, whether it be the automatic winding mechanism, the regular gear train or the working surface of the super efficient "gliding pinion" switching gear set. This is the highest grade version of this movement we know of. The top-grade glucydur regulator oscillates at 19,800 beats per hour, and has both micrometric fine rate adjustment and a fine adjustment for beat error. Many consider micro-rotor technology to be the pinnacle of automatic winding science even to this day, and it is still used by Patek Philippe, A Lange & Sohne and many other high-end watchmaking houses, especially when thinner movements are needed. Negatives: The has minor scratches, mostly in the usual places - the lugs and the slots where a case opening tool was used. The hands and markers have slight scratches as well if you look close - nothing too unusual for a watch of this age. Note also that the "exploded" movement photos show the watch already partially assembled - yes, the mainspring, the barrel, the setting mechanism and the balance jewels were all disassembled and properly serviced as well.
